Lord Austin had a brief career as a journalist – prior to entering politics, he worked for a small local outlet in his home town of Dudley. It would be fair to say, he is a “career politician”. In our view, career politicians are the worst type of politicians. With no previous career successes in life, and often woefully lacking adequate skills and experiences.
They are most probably the most conducive to “sell their souls”, in order to sustain their position in politics, becasue they don’t really have anything to go back to doing.
Whilst an MP, sitting in the House of Commons, Mr Austin was known to be a rowdy and uncouth member – being reprimanded by the speaker of the house on several occasions for his transgressions.
He was once described by former Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron as being Gordon Brown’s (former Labour Prime Minister) “boot boy” – suggesting he was good at being subservient and taking orders, and being a loyal “lieutenant”.
Mr Austin is a rabid Israel supporter, with a history of making false antisemitism claims and smearing pro-Palestine voices.
On 1 June 2012, Austin apologised after falsely claiming Friends of Al-Aqsa (a Palestinian human rights group), had denied the Holocaust happened, in an article he wrote on the Labour Uncut website in 2011. He accepted the material of which he complained had been produced by an unconnected individual, and had nothing to do with Friends of Al-Aqsa.
In July 2018, Austin was put under investigation by the Labour Party for allegedly using abusive language towards the party Chairman.
On 17 March 2022, Austin and The Daily Telegraph apologised to former Jeremy Corbyn staffer, Laura Murray, and agreed to pay her “substantial damages” (£40,000) for suggesting she was an “anti-Jewish racist” and part of the “vile anti-Semitism of Corbyn’s Labour”. They accepted there was no basis to the claims, and that Ms Murray had in fact “devoted significant time and energy to confronting and challenging antisemitism within the Labour Party”.
Lord Austin penned an article yesterday in the Jewish Chronicle (JC). The JC is well known for publishing lies and fake news. It has been found guilty in the UK courts several times.
In the article, he seems to argue the point of “double-standards” – that others aren’t being called out for their racism as much as Israel is (hardly a refutation of Israel being racist).
In the article he compares Israel to countries like China and Qatar. Un-democratic countries.
The UK government’s adopted guidance of antisemitism is based on the IHRA definition, and it states Israel should be compared with other “democratic nations”. Implying, comparing it with non-democratic nations is antisemitic.
Rabid Israel supporters though have no qualms about being antisemitic when it suits their agenda.
But are the first to shout at others, including pro-Palestine advocates, with their false accusations of “antisemitism”.
As a result, the expression itself is increasingly becoming nothing but just a slur when coming from pro-Israel voices, such as Mr Austin.
Mr Austin tweeted his article yesterday. Upon facing a backlash and being made aware of his folly, he swiftly resorted to deleting the article from X (formerly known as Twitter).
