Simon Myerson KC of Leeds, caught harassing and bullying pro Palestine activists, again – how can he be impartial, a key requirement of the Bar Standards Board

Simon Myerson has a reputation in Leeds and the surrounding areas amongst his colleagues as being brash an abrasive.

Simon Myerson is constantly attacking and harassing pro-Palestinian activists on X, with lies and preposterous accusations, based on figments of his imagination.

How the BSB do not see this as him doing great harm to the legal profession simply beggars belief.

Below is a tweet where he makes his latest attack:

It is in response to the tweet below:

The Rabbi Zecharia Deutsch was gleefully singing whilst participating in the obliteration of Gaza, where tens of thousands of civilians have been targeted and killed – including thousands of children and babies.

There is an ongoing genocide investigation at the ICJ, who have already told Israel in an initial assessment that they must stop acting in ways that would risk a genocide. For someone to hold the opinion that Mr Deutsch is a “terrorist”, is perfectly justifiable and reasonable – the definition of a terrorist is: using physical violence against civilians and the murder of civilians, in order to advance a political objective – that is precisely de-facto what Israel is doing.

Coming back to Mr Myerson, he makes several nonsensical accusations in order to intimidate and harass the account that has made this tweet:

First of all – the post does not “attack the Jewish community” – it specifically refers to Mr Deutsch. Secondly – a member of the public exercising their right to free speech by airing opinions based on available evidence, is NOT “intimidation and defamation”. Thirdly – Mr Myerson says “as a result” of this tweet “Deutsch’s family has been subjected to…” – that is a patent lie, Mr Deutsch’s family has not been subjected to any of those things “as a result” of this tweet, because those things were already happening prior to the tweet!

He then goes on to make a clear threat, by asking for this persons details so that he can “deal with it”. And also tries to intimidate and harass the individual by saying a name would help investigate “criminal offences” – when no criminal offences have taken place – he is presumably using his title of KC, as is visible on his X profile, to make people believe they are engaging in criminal activity by merely exercising their right to free speech. He using his position as a lawyer to pass judgement when no criminal offences have taken place.

Simon Myerson is regulated by the Bar Standards Board in the UK – which has 10 guiding principles when regulating lawyers in the UK – they are:

We believe Mr Myerson has breached more than one of those, namely, the points about acting with honesty and integrity, not to act in a way that diminishes trust and confidence in the profession, and maintaining independence; how can he remain impartial especially with the part-time work he does where he sits as a recorder (circuit judge) at Hull, York and Bradford Crown Courts.

His biased position may be explained by the fact that it is believed Mr Myerson has family members active in the IDF, who are participating in the ongoing atrocities in Gaza.

When the Met Police decided to assist the ICJ in its investigation on Israel’s actions, as it is obliged to do, yes, it is obliged to do so when British subjects are known to be active there – Mr Myerson’s comment as reported in The Time newspaper, was revealing: “Simon Myerson KC said the force should focus on solving crimes committed in London rather than the overseas conflict”.
