X says: the current state of Israel has nothing to do with Judaism.

Y says: nonsense, that’s like saying Mecca has nothing to do with Muslims.

Now, let’s break this down.

Israel, is a sovereign country created in 1947 at the UN and declared independence in 1948.

It’s a country.

Mecca, is a city in a sovereign country called Saudi Arabia, after it negotiated independence from Britain in 1972. With the Treaty of Jeddah.

The equivalent for Jews is Jerusalem.

Do Muslims have a connection to Mecca? Yes.

Is that connection independent of any sovereign country, whether it be called Saudi Arabia or anything else? Yes.

Do Jews have a connection to Jerusalem? Yes.

Is that connection independent of any sovereign country, whether it be called Israel or anything else? Yes.

Therefore, logically and factually one can conclude, that Islam really has nothing to do with Saudi Arabia, per-se – nor does Judaism have anything to do with Israel, per-se.

And this point is proven to be true when we look at the third religion; Christianity, which is often banded together with Judaism and Islam.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem’s Old City is Christianity’s most hallowed shrine.

Christians all around the world have a connection to it, independent of any sovereign state.
