Bill Ackman, the hedge fund hustler, tries to cancel pro-Palestinian activists at Harvard

Ackman, who identifies as an Ashkenazi Jew, with his second wife, Israeli born Neri Oxman.

A group of pro-Palestine Harvard students released a statement condemning the state of Israel for the event that unfolded on Saturday. Stating it did not occur in a vacuum. They did not blame the victims per se i.e. the civilians, but I thought it desperately lacked nuance, and I did not agree with all if it.

Nevertheless, Bill Ackman, the billionaire activist hedge fund manager and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management, took extreme exception to this. Called for the students to be doxed (they were and preferred to remain anonymous) and cancelled by any future employers.

Which, understandably, made many of the student feel “unsafe” upon discovering this billionaire’s attack on their free speech. Which is arguably the most sacrosanct in the US than anywhere else in the world.

He tweeted the above, and in doing so, Ackman was being highly disingenuous. Trying to fool unsuspecting people.

Iā€™ve hired many people across various levels, and character is always important, though very hard to actually gauge with any real certainty.

And a potential candidateā€™s political views, which is what this essentially is, doesnā€™t go anywhere near in any meaningful way, to determine a personā€™s character traits.

Furthermore, a political view, most certainly doesnā€™t determine oneā€™s ability to do the job.

I can understand why the students were feeling “unsafe” after Ackman’s tweet, as any reasonable person would.

Ackman gaslights this and says that feeling “unsafe” was overused at universities, which ironically, tells us something about his own character.

Ackman makes a comparison, a nonsensical KKK comparison, which is so bad, itā€™s comical.

Itā€™s comparing apples and oranges. It is totally devoid of the critically important historical, decades long context of whatā€™s going on in Palestine and Israel.

Alas, he has attempted to spin a narrative that simply has no real rationale or logic. Other than a seeming desire to want to punish the students, if he can, just because they have a view that is different to his.

Contrary to what he has suggested in his tweeted spin; that having differing views is detrimental to an organisation – numerous studies have been done, which are almost unanimously accepted now, that having differing views in organisations is a major plus point.

It is what forward-thinking companies strive for!

Israel advocates / the Israel lobby, are infamous for this type of bullying and harassment against peopleā€™s livelihoods, that Ackman is trying to attempt here with his charade.

I would suggest, the students in question from Harvard, who will presumably be highly sought after as employees, by a whole host of reputable organisations, stay well away from working for Ackman and his ilk or anyone in his portfolio of companies who share his anti-free speech and anti-US constitution views.

This tweet did put the student sin question in danger though, because the names of the alleged signatories were later published by the right-wing media group Accuracy in Media, which organised a truck to drive around Harvard’s campus displaying the names, and faces of several allegedly-involved students, leading to personal harassment and targeting.

Ackman has always been a vocal supporter of free speech and safety of Jewish students on campus – seemingly not the case when it comes to speech he disagrees with, or when it comes to the safety of non-Jewish students.

Some of his portfolio companies include companies such as fast food chain Domino’s Pizza, Chipotle Mexican Grill and Hilton Hotels.

After his tweet only a small handful of relatively small, unknown companies and CEOs did come out in support of him, but has largely been ignored.

In 2021, Ackman called Kyle Rittenhouse a ā€œcivic-minded patriotā€ after the 17-year old had fatally shot two unarmed protesters with an AR-15 style rifle.
